Read aloud Genesis 29:31-30:24
Genesis 29:31-30:24
LAUNCHING QUESTION
After gathering together on Sunday morning (through prayers, worship in song, parent commissioning, interacting with others, listening to the sermon, etc.), in what ways were we helped to become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ who know Him and make Him known? How can the main idea of the message help equip us to help others?
Main Idea: God works all things for His good purposes.
Three Questions - From Genesis 29:31-30:24
What does this passage teach us historically?
Elder Glen walked us through the passage by noticing the births of Jacob’s children through Leah, Bihah, Zilpah, and Rachel.
Questions: How was Leah loved by God? How, in the midst of heartaches and failures, did God demonstrate his covenant faithfulness? What is the significance of Leah giving birth to Judah as seen in 29:35 (Read: Genesis 49:10. To whom is this prophecy pointing?)
At the end of the passage we read “Then, God remembered Rachel . . .”(30:22-24). How does God end this “marvelous mess”? What is the significance of ending the passage with the birth of Joseph? (Read: Genesis 50:20. Who might Joseph be pointing to in the New Testament?)
What does this passage teach us theologically?
Where do we see God’s sovereignty (working all things for His good purposes)?
Where do we witness God’s faithfulness amid all the mess of life?
What human decisions and responses do we notice that point to the brokenness and depravity (sinfulness) of humanity?
Despite the rebellion and suffering, God is at work, bringing about His purposes. How does this passage ultimately point to God’s redemptive work in the life, death, and resurrection of His Son and our Savior Jesus Christ?
What does this passage teach us practically?
Stay in God’s Word. How are you practically carrying out this imperative? What disciplines do you need to work on such as reading God’s Word, hearing God’s Word, studying God’s Word, memorizing God’s Word, or meditating on God’s Word? When will you start working on these disciplines? Who will you get to help you in these disciplines?
Infertility is a difficult road to walk. This is a broken world. We suffer in this world. How will we “bear one another’s burdens” out of love for each other? Do you know anyone who is suffering silently? How will you enter their life and be a well-timed grace for them? For help in experiencing the pain and loneliness of Infertility see Infertility Care Group Vision.
Life is messy, follow the LORD. Our mission as a church reads: Helping people become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ who know Him and make Him known. What are some ways you can reorder your daily life to align a bit closer to our church mission? What changes will need to be made? What evidence will demonstrate your progress in “helping people become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ”? Talk freely as a Growth Group over these types of questions and changes. Pray for one another. Encourage one another.
