“Why are we so tired? Exchanging deep joys for thin pleasures.” ~ Scott Dixon
Genesis 1-2; Romans 12:1-2
LAUNCHING QUESTION
After gathering together on Sunday morning in what ways were we helped to wholeheartedly follow Jesus Christ by knowing Him and making Him known?
Big Picture:
Creation (Genesis 1-2)
Fall (Genesis 3)
Redemption (Genesis 3:15 - Revelation 20:15
Consummation (Revelation 21 - 22)
Have the Growth Group talk through the storyline of the Bible as seen above. How does knowing the “big picture” help us navigate technology and AI?
Guidelines to help think through AI
Beware of reductionistic tendencies.
Scott said, “Don’t freak out. Don’s geek out.” What do you suppose he meant by his words?
No machine should do what man was created to do.
What are some limits computers have that we should remember? How will growing in discernment over AI help you to make decisions concerning AI?
Technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral.
What do you think this guideline is helping us to understand? How might the principle shape our decisions over AI?
We must use our tools (AI one of them) but ultimately they shape us.
What are some disciplines we do or can put in place that will help us to “not be conformed to the pattern of this world”?
How will we encourage one another to be transformed in Christ and not be conformed to the world?
What might Christopher Watkin have meant when he said, “Friction is a gym for the soul?” How does trust in God and hard work in obedience relate? What are some ways we can encourage each other when times are difficult and we are tempted to take an easy way out of a responsibility?
Practical Exhortations
We must continually learn how to think. How might basic Bible reading, memorizing scripture, and prayer impact how we think?
We must continually learn to persevere under pressure. What can our Growth Group do differently to care for each other when a member is under pressure?
1 Corinthians 10:13. Look up and read this verse. Talk through some practical ways this verse teaches us to persevere. How is God featured in this verse? How are we to understand temptations and our technological culture in light of this verse?
