When We Pray: Part 2

Read Matthew 6:25-34 and pray together
Main Idea: When we pray, we pray for our needs with hearts of faith.
When we pray, we pray with faith that . . .
Our Father truly values us. (verses 25-26)
Pastor Jason began his sermon with a question. “What are you concerned about today?” What is that concern?
When your concern grows and becomes anxiety, what are you believing about God?
When your concern becomes anxiety, what are you tempted to do? Try to be specific with your answers.
Things like: when you are anxious about what people think of you, you are tempted to do what? When you are eager for money, you are tempted to do what? When you are anxious over deadlines, you are tempted to do what? When you are willing to give your spouse your attention, you are tempted to do what?
How will believing that our Father truly values us help us in times of anxiety?
How did the talk on birds in verse 26 relate to the topic of anxiety? Jesus tells us to “look at the birds,” so what are we to conclude about God? Do we do this? If so, how so? If not, why not?
Have someone in your group read aloud Romans 8:32. Stop and pray to sense your Father’s love for you.
Our worry never helps us. (verse 27)
How has worrying ever helped you in a difficult time? How has it bought you extra time, provided more protection, or brought you something positive? WORRY IS FUTILE.
Pastor Jason shared his observation that “fear decreases as faith increases.” How will we begin or continue to grow in praying by faith? What will our prayers sound like when we start our prayers by affirming the truth about God?
Our King always provides for us. (verses 31-33)
REMEMBER: God is our King. What does this mean in relation to our prayer life?
Pastor Jason highlighted God’s sovereignty when he said, “our Father is more than willing & our King is more than able to provide all our needs.” How does this statement affect your heart? In what ways will this renewed understanding of prayer help you to pray?
A prayer to pray: Using our Church’s 21-day prayer prompter, find today’s prayer prompt and read it outloud for your group. Then spend a few minutes together in prayer over this truth.
A verse to memorize:
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s pleasure to give you His kingdom.” ~ Luke 12:32
