Genesis 30:25-31:16

LAUNCHING QUESTION

After gathering together on Sunday morning (through prayers, worship in song, baptisms, interacting with others, listening to the sermon, etc.), in what ways were we helped to become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ who know Him and make Him known? How can the main idea of the message help equip us to help others?

Main Idea: God always has and always will provide for his people so you can trust him

Three Questions - From Genesis 30:25-31:16

What does this passage teach us historically?

  • Laban wants to receive the blessing of God without worshipping God himself. What are some ways you have desired the blessing of God without worshipping and loving God himself? How can this happen in our lives today?

  • God continues to provide for Jacob throughout these circumstances despite Laban seeking to cheat Jacob out of receiving abundant flocks. What does that teach us about God’s character? How should we understand that from a New Covenant perspective as those In Christ?

  • God’s provision is seen throughout this passage. Please read Genesis 28:14. How is this text fulfilled through our passage this week?

What does this passage teach us theologically?

  • God always has and always will faithfully provide for His covenant people….What are some ways God has provided for you in your life?

  • Please read Matthew 6:25-33. What are some helpful promises we can hold onto through this passage?

What does this passage teach us practically?

1. Trust God when you’re mistreated

  • What are some ways you have been mistreated? How does understanding God’s vindication and justice change the way we respond to mistreatment?

2. Trust God with your marriage practices

  • What does it look like for us to trust the Lord in our marriage practices?

3. Trust God with your prosperity

  • What are some practical ways you can give your wealth (or lack thereof) over to the Lord? What are some practical ways we can be faithful with our finances?
